Newgarden leads IndyCar’s final warm-up of 2016

Josef Newgarden, who is attempting to grab third in the championship today at Sonoma’s IndyCar finale, put his Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet top of the timesheets in raceday warm-up. On what may well prove his final raceday for Ed Carpenter Racing, Newgarden lapped the 2.385-mile course in 1min17.6431sec on the 11th of his 16 laps to narrowly edge outgoing champion Scott Dixon, who is trying to give Chip Ganassi Racing’s 27-year sponsor Target the perfect send-off. Takuma Sato was third fastest, and top Honda, in the AJ Foyt Racing machine, ahead of another Ganassi car, that of Charlie Kimball.
