Phoenix IndyCar: Newgarden beats Wickens, Rossi in thrilling shootout
Team Penske-Chevrolet’s Josef Newgarden proved why he is IndyCar champion, delivering a brilliant display after a seven-lap shootout with oval debutant Robert Wickens, his Schmidt Peterson teammate James Hinchcliffe and Alexander Rossi. A clean start saw Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais get away well ahead of Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, but Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi got around Will Power to snatch third.
