Bourdais conquers Phoenix for first oval pole since '06

A nearly monthlong layoff hasn't stopped Sebastien Bourdais' momentum, as the winner of the St. Petersburg race took the pole for Saturday night's Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix with a two-lap average of 188.539mph. Bourdais, who was the last driver to make an attempt, edged Team Penske's Simon Pagenaud (+0.391s) – the defending race winner – and Will Power, who was over 1.6s slower in third.
