Pagenaud penalty a surprise - Castroneves

Helio Castroneves says that he was surprised by the penalty that relegated teammate Simon Pagenaud to the rear of the grid for tomorrow's IndyCar race at Long Beach. Castroneves was forced to check up when Pagenaud braked suddenly near the end of the first qualifying phase; an act that race control later interpreted as qualifying impediment. Pagenaud, in turn, said that he was slowing down to create space between he and Will Power, who was ahead of both of them. Castroneves echoed Pagenaud's explanation, and said that he didn't think the penalty was warranted.
