Castroneves outruns the rain to win Alabama pole
– Hélio Castroneves put in a quick lap early in the third qualifying session to beat the oncoming rain (and his team-mates) to take pole for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. The 43rd pole of his career and second in a row, Castroneves topped the all-Chevy Firestone Fast Six as spectators were being told to evacuate the grandstands due to an oncoming thunderstorm.IndyCar had initially moved up the start of qualifying in anticipation of a developing cell west of Birmingham, Alabama, and they took further steps to shorten the length of time between qualifying sessions, too.
