INDY 500: Top speeds crack 240mph barrier
Turn 1 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the place to be this weekend. Time trials for the 100th Indy 500 have produced stunning speeds as drivers trim downforce and drag from their cars in pursuit of pole position, and on rare occasion, 240mph has been surpassed entering the first corner. Using the numerous timing and scoring data loops throughout the IMS oval to generate average speed information, the biggest number produced on Saturday belonged to Andretti Autosport's Townsend Bell (above).
