Penske sweeps top 4 spots in Sonoma FP2
Penske remained in control of the opening day of the Verizon IndyCar Series season finale, with Josef Newgarden once again setting the pace in the second practice session to lead the team's sweep of the top four spots on the timing charts. Newgarden first moved into P1 with about 15 minutes remaining, displacing teammate Simon Pagenaud with a 1m16.6996s. The reigning champion switched to the soft-compound Firestones and reclaimed the top spot with a 1m16.2871s, only for a similarly red-shod Newgarden to immediately raise the bar to 1m16.2485s – an unofficial track record.
