Carpenter cracks 224 mph in final Texas practice

Ed Carpenter closed a busy Friday at Texas Motor Speedway with the fastest lap of the event as the owner/driver became the first person to crack the 224 mph barrier. Carpenter spent most of the 30-minute practice session in a large pack as the field worked on their cars while lapping in a draft, and once it was over, the 2014 Texas race winner held the top spot (224.682 mph) in his Chevy-powered entry. Carpenter, who will start Saturday night's race from 14th on the grid, was followed by front-row starter Scott Dixon in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda (223.008 mph), Andretti Autosport's Alexander Rossi (222.678 mph), ECR teammate JR Hildebrand (222.303 mph), and a pair of Team Penske drivers...
