Gutierrez hopes Detroit leads to full-season role

Esteban Gutierrez hopes to turn what is currently a one-off understudy role at Dale Coyne Racing into a full-time IndyCar program. The Mexican was called up at short notice to replace the injured Sebastien Bourdais in Coyne's No.18 Honda-powered entry in Detroit this weekend, and drove the car for the first time during this morning's opening practice session. That ended with him 21st on the timing sheets and 2.9s down on pace-setter Graham Rahal, but Gutierrez says that he is already excited by what he has seen.
