Castroneves on pole with Phoenix track record

Helio Castroneves captured his second pole of the year and the fourth from four races for Team Penske as the Brazilian used the perfect balance offered by his No. 3 Chevy to break his 2016 qualifying record at Phoenix. Run under the lights in cool but windy conditions, the three-time Indy 500 winner barely needed to turn the wheel throughout the rocket-fast 1.0-mile oval to set a two-lap average of 194.905 mph. Castroneves knocked Penske teammate Will Power off the top position to get pole, but the Australian was able to hold onto the outside front row with his 194.017mph run.
