No, I didn't believe it at first either. It's one thing for a current Formula 1 driver to take part in a race on top of their usual commitments, but to miss a grand prix - and Monaco, one of the most iconic - is quite remarkable. But then, Fernando Alonso is a quite remarkable driver. Of course, to have two world championships to your name of suggests you're one of the best in the world, and yet it is widely agreed that is a statistic that does not do Alonso justice.
