St.Pete poised to remain as IndyCar opener until 2024

The Grand Prix of St.Petersburg is poised to keep its place on the NTT IndyCar Series schedule through to 2024 after unanimous approval from the St.Petersburg City Council. Set partially on the Albert Whitted airfield on the Florida coast whilst racing into downtown St.Petersburg, the event has been the traditional season opener for the IndyCar championship for the past nine years [Except for 2010] whilst being on the schedule since 2003; albeit missing 2004. Team Penske's Josef Newgarden won this season's event and is currently the championship leader, 29 points clear of Andretti Autosport's Alexander Rossi.
