On a hot, slippery opening practice session at ISM Raceway in Phoenix, Simon Pagenaud and Tony Kanaan showed everyone the quick way around. Pagenaud, in the Menard's Chevy for Team Penske, posted the fastest lap of 20.173 seconds (182.375 mph) and Kanaan was close behind at 20.180 seconds (183.313 mph) in A.J. Foyt's ABC Supply Chevrolet.
