Marco Andretti opened the 2017 Month of May by topping the times on the first day of practice for the Indianapolis 500. Andretti set the pace at 226.338mph, just over 1mph clear of second-fastest Scott Dixon in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Ed Carpenter was fastest of the Chevrolet-powered runners and third-fastest overall at 224.969mph.
