A trio of Team Penske Chevy drivers led most of Friday's opening Verizon IndyCar Series practice session at Barber Motorsports Park, and with a fast lap turned in by Helio Castroneves at the very end of the 45-minute outing, the defending series champions secured a rare P1-2-3-4. 2016 IndyCar champion Simon Pagenaud led his teammates with a lap of 1m08.1104s around the flowing road course and was followed by Josef Newgarden (+0.0718s), Will Power (+0.1082s), Castroneves (+0.3008s), and Alexander Rossi (+0.3456s), first of the Honda runners in his Andretti Autosport entry.
