Newgarden shunts in practice at the Glen

Josef Newgarden had a sizeable shunt at Turn 7 at Watkins Glen during third practice for the penultimate race of the season. The rear of the Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet stepped out of line as Newgarden was reaching the apex of the 140mph Turn 7, and the #20 car backed hard into the tire wall on the outside of the corner before rebounding across the track, wiping off front and rear wings. The American appeared unhurt and not to have aggravated the broken collarbone and fractured wrist he incurred at Texas in June.
