Resurgent Hinchcliffe wins Indy 500 pole

– James Hinchcliffe completed a fairy tale comeback today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, capturing pole position for the 100th running Indy 500 by the fourth-closest margin in the race's history. A year after an accident nearly claimed his life on the 2.5-mile oval, Hinchcliffe bettered Josef Newgarden on the final run of the day, clocking a 230.760mph average.The pole position came five years to the day since team owner Sam Schmidt put another Candian, Alex Tagliani, on pole in similarly dramatic fashion.
