IndyCar: NOLA qualifying cancelled, grid set by entrant points

Juan Montoya earned the luckiest pole position of his Indy car career after spinning out in the first stage of qualifying for IndyCar’s inaugural Grand Prix of New Orleans. Following lightning strikes that brought a halt to proceedings during Group 2’s Q1 session, and with no let up in the weather, IndyCar officials elected to cancel the session and set the grid by entrant points. This puts all four Team Penske cars in the top five following their race results in the season opener, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, and Montoya isn’t the only one of Roger’s team to be grateful for this.
