The Team Penske driver's 1m07.0198s was set 20 minutes before the end of the session and remained out of reach for his rivals, with Chip Ganassi Racin's Scott Dixon coming closest to beating it with his 1m07.1173s. Honda's encouraging start to the weekend continued with James Hinchcliffe and Carlos Munoz both finishing the morning just over 0.1s down on Power's time to settle in third- and fourth-fastest, respectively, putting them just ahead of Simon Pagenaud and Friday morning's leader Sebastien Bourdais.
