MILLER: Calling Daly's number

For a long time it looked like Conor Daly was going to be filed away in the "It's too bad that kid never got a full-time ride" drawer that is overflowing with names long since forgotten in open-wheel history. Even though Daly displayed grit and guile, earned wins and showed plenty of pace to go with his pedigree, it was easy to see him becoming the next Jon Fogarty, Lee Bentham, Jonathan Bomarito, Michael Valiante, John Edwards, Alex Gurney or David Empringham. You know, too good not to make it in IndyCar and too young for sports cars, but too bad because they lacked funding. It's the plight and the blight of today's young racers that ability and promise usually takes a back seat...
